Had the best intro to the trip we could have hoped for. Everything set up and triple checked by Jacko and Bill. We left Jacko's front lawn in a reasonable state, crocs worn with pride. Hit the road and off to Port Fairy. A stop at a weighbridge later to find out that for the first time in my life I had a weight problem. Not quite sure how to solve that yet.
Got to the Catalina caravan park, Sara reversed the van in without a worry. Neighbours are Ron and Margaret (coming to this patch of dirt on the highway for 15 years), and some Frenchies in a Winnebago. Kids swimming in the cloudy waters of the park's pool now, we'll hit the beach later to kill the bacteria.

Hamish, Sara, Oliver, Ned & Ivy are taking a year or so to drive around Australia. Follow their madcap adventures as they dodge grey nomads, shower infrequently, and take the Disco and Kimmy the 23ft wondervan to a land with no coffee, no Barney, but lots of new neighbours.

First stop...Barwon Heads!!
Massive first day yesterday. From "Tony's Budget Caravan Storage and Art World Warehouse", to Sal and Jacko's front lawn in Barwon Heads. Tom, Emily, Jacko, Sally, Sally's mum and dad (Jane and Bill), sister Penny and brother-in-law Phil, nieces and nephew all gazed in wonder as Kimmy rounded the corner. First reverse parking completed with Bill's able support (and the caravan brake on).
The van then got a thorough going over, with Bill and Jacko giving an electrics 101 tutorial, although it must be said, Tony had already got the ball rolling in that respect. Best news of the day, was Bill's pronouncement that our battery was not stuffed.
On to beer, wine and BBQ. Slow start after that this morning with all the kids sleeping in. Phil and Tom took me for my first surf of the trip, and I broke in the new board, or "The Brick"as I think I will be calling it from now on.
At the end of day 2, I'm so happy to be finally on the road. Bring on the rest of Australia.

Two weeks to go
There's a fair bit I should be doing now, but procrastinating has always been a strong suit of mine, so instead of clearing my desk and writing DC notes to Docs, I've set up this blog.
Two and a bit weeks to go. Don't know if our tents leak. Don't know if we will be overloading the van. Adrian did say we only had 400kg inc the water. Don't know how to park it. Don't even know if the new surfboard floats; that would be a problem. Happy the first night is in Barwon Heads outside Sally and Jacko's place.
That's the first post, may there be many more.
